The big match revisited 16th February 1975
Just watched West Ham 2 QPR 1 5th round of the FA Cup. Entertaining game despite a pudding of a pitch QPR took the lead after 25 minutes then Patsy Holland equalised 10 minutes later with a bullet header. Keith Robson got the winner a minute into the 2nd half with another header. Couple of incidents that happened in the game Robson making a grab for the ref that would have probably resulted in a red card today. Then Stan Bowles making an obscene gesture after being subbed. No segregation in the South Bank and didn't appear to be many Rangers fans there that day. Great rendition of bubbles about 10 minutes from the end and was good to see the old place, brought back great memories. Of course we went onto win the cup that year, happy days. ⚒

I was there on the South East shelf in the South Bank that day, I couldn’t get anywhere near to my usual spot behind the goal. The place was absolutely rammed and it was a brilliant match.

I think Keith Robson got injured which paved these way for Taylor to come in for the Quarter Final.

I'd love to find a video of the 3rd Round game in 1980 away at West Brom. I've heard Phil Parkes had his best game for us that day.

I was there that day on the North Bank.
Segregation was not in place until 1977 (Oct 77 vs Nottingham Forrest) believe it or not.
In any case QPR represented no threat whatsoever, in fact only Tottenham, Chelsea, Man Utd, Liverpool and Leeds represented any significant threat.

The pitch was dire, even by the standards of the day. The modern player simply could not play on those surfaces.

It was an exciting time, despite average league form we went on to win the cup and at the QPR game few people knew the name Alan Taylor. He had come on in a couple of games earlier but had not scored and did not play in the QPR match, though he went on to score 2 goals in each of the next 3 rounds including the final.

Finally, the quoted gate of 39,193 was ty[ical of the day. The doors were closed at 2:30, packed in like sardines. The real gate was well in excess of capacity of 42,500 but the gate crews would put people through in 2s and take a little for themselves

I’m currently watching Fulham vs Charlton from Feb 1977.

Fulham with Moore, Best and Marsh.

Love the 70s

No Sven started making a name for himself from the Arsenal game onwards scoring 6 goals. The 2nd goal at Highbury was poetry in motion on a worse pitch than ours!

Recall it well standing half way up the south bank
Did see Clyde Best run out which surprised me as didnt think he was about in 75.
Thomas for QPR was a proper winger saw a sad bit about him on sky sports about him going blind and how he was dreading the day when he couldn't see at all .

Fantastic game and superb atmosphere. I was behind the goal on the North Bank with a QPR mate who sensibly kept quiet. Happy days!

Re: The big match revisited 16th February 1975
Still no Alan Taylor at that point
Looked back & by the time we went to Arsenal for the quarter final he hadn’t played a full 90 mins.
One start where he was subbed & 3 sub appearances

Yes Kevin Lock being hailed as the new Bobby Moore...no pressure then! The only thing he had in common with Mooro was following his foot steps to Fulham and later Southend where he was managed by the by the great man.

I watched that too - it was great mainly because my earliest memories are around 79/80 season.

Of course we won the cup and QPR went on to lose the title on goal difference to Liverpool the following season.

Bonzo was all action and Sir Trev still looked classy on that potato patch of a pitch. We had a lot of young players in that team but not many of them kicked on and improved did they?

He was indeed Cough. They had a great team then, big Phil, Davey Webb, Frank McClintock, Gerry Francis, the two Don's Givens and Rodgers, Dave Thomas, Don Masson and Stanley. They should have won the league the following season.
